In 2009 Rob Zombie presented the world with The Haunted World Of El Superbeasto, the superhero the world probably doesn't need. Let me start off with saying this film is completely obscene and how it managed only having an R rating is really quite remarkable. I mean be prepared for blood, gore, zombie Nazis, and endless amounts of tits... This animated film starts off being borderline animated porn. This is a film that could only come from the twisted mind of Rob Zombie. In Zombies own words, "Awesome...this little tiny half-a-million dollar direct-to-video movie that expanded into this $10 million animated extravaganza. And it's awesome... It's like an R-rated adult/monster/sex comedy. There's nothing really like it that I can think of. People always say like Ralph Bakshi's stuff, but...it's [more] like if Spongebob and Scooby-Doo were filthy." This movie kinda grew on me, as I watched a second time. I absolutely love how this film references nearly every horror movie in history, paying homage to the films that inspired Zombie in his own film making. This film is completely obscene but still a lot of fun (if you like gross humour and classic horror films). I love that we get to see famous Rob Zombie characters like Captain Spaulding and Otis from House Of 1000 Corpses and The Devils Rejects, doing small cameos. Of course Zombie casts is beautiful wife Sherry Moon Zombie as the leading lady Suzi-X, along side of comedian Tom Papa as Superbeasto, and Rosario Dawson as the foul mouthed Velvet Von Black. Yes, this film is foul and disgusting, but it is also just raunchy fun too. The acting is all done well, and fits the style of comic book superhero meets goofy horror. The animation is well done in a style that Rob Zombie is famous for on his albums. Really no complaints as far as the look and the feel of the film from a technical standpoint. The story is a little just out there, sometimes losing it's own plot as it gets distracted by sex and boobs, then there are two different story lines which only loosely find each other from time to time as Suzi-X and Superbeasto (brother and sister), are both having their own comic book adventure and then meet join up to take on Dr Satan (yep which is a reference to House Of A 1000 Corpses), and then the hoard of Zombie Nazis who we thought were done with come back...well just because I suppose. Definitely a great film for those with a short attention span, as it just kind of bounces all over the place disjointedly, and the film comes in at a mere 79 minutes. Would I recommend this film? No, definitely not for everyone, I think there are a lot of people who would really just honestly be disgusted by this film. I honestly enjoyed it, but it appealed to the side of me that does have a crude sense of humour, and thought it was kind of fun, but there are definitely issues that make it not for everyone, and I would not want most people to subject themselves to this trash unless, this kind of trash is the kind of thing that you can enjoy the absurdity of it all. So yeah, if you are down for an animated film that more than borders on being porn, with tons of horror movie references, and an absurd story, then go out and find yourself a copy of this direct to dvd film.
