The Goonies released in 1985 is a classic adventure story about a group of friends who live in the "Goondocks" neighborhood of Astoria Oregon. Their families are facing foreclosure as wealthy land developers are trying to buy up all of the properties in the neighborhood. The kids, Mikey (Sean Astin), Mouth (Corey Feldman), Chunk (Jeff Cohen), and Data (Johnathan Ke Huy Quan) find a treasure map in Mikey's attic. The map supposedly leads to pirate, One Eyed Willy's treasure. They end up being joined by Mikey's brother Bran (Josh Brolin), Andy (Kerri Green), and Stef (Martha Plimpton). As they navigate their way through the tunnels, avoiding booby traps, and the evil Fratelli family to try to find the treasure and save their homes. This is a movie that I loved as a child, and has always remained one of my favourite movies. All of the actors are perfectly cast and played their roles perfectly, honestly Goonies, Stand By Me, and It (the original) had the best groups of child actors ever assembled, that is until Stranger Things came out. This is an amazing movie about childhood adventures, the adventures that most of us dreamed that we could have. The characters are all so familiar, and they each feel like someone that we grew up with, which is a sign of good writing, casting, and acting. The film is absolutely fun for audiences of all ages, and has become a huge part of our pop-culture. Looking back on the Goonies it is impressive that the effects still look great, and the movie is still as relevant and relatable to today's kids as it was our generation when it was released. This movie really has become a timeless childhood adventure film, that is fun for kids who pretend to have adventures like this, but also for adults who are nostalgic for that time in their own lives. Also this film had some great music including an original song "Goonies are Good E'nuff" but Cindy Lauper. The DVD version that I have also has the music video that she did for the song, which is an extended version of the song with famous WWF wrestlers like Lou Albano, Andre The Giant, and others, and also featured the cast of the film as well, and that was a lot of fun to watch. Would I recommend this film? Yes, this is one of my favourite movies from my childhood, one that I will never forget. This is a must see for every person alive, and every kid needs to watch this amazing film. This one should be in every movie collection ever!
