The Gene Generation is a cyber-goth sci-fi film from 2007. I am just gonna come out and say it, I have seen better CGI in cut scenes on Playstation 1 and 2, and better acting also in those cut scenes. The movie looks bad, no that is an extreme understatement, bad doesn't even begin to explain how this movie looks. By 2007 with a budget of over 2 million dollars, a filmmaker should have the ability to make a sci-fi movie look good. This film is hard to watch because of how absolutely abysmally bad the CGI is. The worst part it isn't just CGI for special effects, but also the sets and pretty much everything but the actors is this very very terrible CGI vomit. The acting doesn't improve this steaming pile of dog shit either, to say that the acting is flat, and lacking of all human emotion would be a major understatement. I have seen highschool plays with more believable acting than this. It seems like no one cared, there is no real emotion at all in this film. On the plus side, the costumes look good, especially Bai Ling, prancing about in skimpy cyber-goth outfits. The costumes and look of the characters has a sexy look to it, and if they were put into a better looking movie, with actors who can actually act, then they would be great...but trying to make a movie this bad look sexy just fails. On another plus, there is some great music by Combichrist, but even that just can't rise this film above just being a terrible shit pile of a film. Let me try to be fair, I saw the cover of this film and I really wanted to like it, I read the back cover and I really wanted to like it, I love sci-fi movies, I love sexy girls in cyber-goth outfits, and I love the music...but watching this film was painful. I LOVE bad movies, I love b-movies, but this one isn't even so bad it's good, it's honestly so bad it's bad. There is no comedic quality to show that the filmmakers knew that what they were making was gonna be shit quality. There just honestly is nothing that makes this film watchable. The story-line is fragmented, and doesn't pull the viewer in, it is just shitty terrible action scenes coupled with the worst CGI the filmmakers could possibly come up with. Interestingly though as I am watching the special features, I think that the director actually thinks that he made a good movie, like he thinks that his characters are realistic, and that the effects look good...really what the fuck is the guy thinking, if I were him I would try to bury this pile of shit film and disappear from the film industry all together, maybe go into hiding, it is actually THAT bad of a film. I honestly can't even watch the rest of the special features, I feel like my brain is going to explode hearing these people talk about how good their movie is. Wait, holy shit this DVD has a really awesome redeeming quality, that is the Combichrist video that is found in the special features. So if you want to buy this dvd skip the movie and just watch the music video, it is a million times better than the film itself. Would I recommend this film? No, nope, absolutely fucking not, I wouldn't want anyone to see this abysmal heap of shit. Avoid this film, don't watch it, don't even consider the possibility of even letting the thought of watching this film even begin to cross your mind, you'd be better to gouge out your own eyeballs and eat them than to subject them to this pile of shit. I don't regret watching this though, and it is actually my second time watching it, I have seen worse surprising enough, but it is definitely not something I would subject anyone else to, I feel like I watched it again because I like pain and felt the need to subject myself to the pain of watching this rubbish, so that you don't have to.
