The Day The Earth Stood Still is a 2008 remake of the 1951 classic science fiction movie of the same name. The movie stars Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, Jennifer Connelly as Dr Helen Benson, and Jaden Smith as her step son Jacob Benson. The basic plot of the story is that an alien (Klaatu) comes to earth in a sphere, and Dr Benson and a team of scientists are kidnapped by the government to help in the situation. Klaatu lands in Central Park, and out steps his giant robot, and then he appears and a soldier shoots him. He is then taken to a military medical facility where they are researching him, and find out that under his exterior there is a human looking body. The government wants to interrogate him, but he escapes and finds Dr Benson. She is sympathetic with him, and helps him by driving him around. Basically his mission is to save the earth, even if that means killing off all of the humans in order to do it. He comes to a conclusion that there is no changing the human race, that it is in their nature to be destructive, and that in order to save the earth, then the humans must go. But can Dr Benson and her step-son change his mind and save the human race... This movie bombed with the critics, and honestly I don't think that is really fair, because it is a great movie. I will say this though, i agree that the pacing of the movie is very slow, and I do agree that sometimes the plot is a little lose and it's not always clear what is actually going on. I also feel that some of the digital effects are a little bit cartoony in places and distracts a bit from what is otherwise a beautiful movie. I am a huge fan of the original, and I do think that this is a pretty fair updated version of it. I also really love the message of he movie, about human's destructive behavior, and the question of can humans even be saved. are they willing to, or can they change their destructive behavior. I think that the movie is pretty well executed, it looks nice, though the pacing is a bit slow. Would I recommend this film? Honestly yes I definitely would. Critics be damned, make up your own opinion. I think this is a great sci-fi movie though a bit slow, but an over all decent movie an enjoyable tp wacth/
