The Cave is an action horror movie that came out in 2005. I first saw this movie in a discount movie theater, and it was fun to watch in the theater. The Cave is about this cave that was discovered under a 13th century chapel deep in the heart of the Carpathian Mountains in Romania. We see a group of mercenaries trying to get into the cave, and when they explode the floor of the chapel to get into the cave, they cause a landslide that traps them in the cave. The movie then abruptly cuts to modern day, a group of scientists are exploring the cave to map it. They also get stuck in the cave and can't get out the way they came, and need to delve deeper into the cave to find a way out. However they soon find out that they are not alone in the cave, and find themselves hunted by giant monsters. As the movie continues we find out more abou the monsters, and what happened to the people who got trapped in the cave earlier in the movie. This movie has a great concept, and does have some exciting action sequences, and has a great claustrophobic feel to it. The sets are absolutely beautiful almost breathtaking in their beauty. The film had actual cave divers to help the filmmakers create the real feeling of the cave diving scenes. The monsters were even pretty good looking and well designed, and I liked how we found out about what the monsters were. The movie really did have a beautiful look to it, and the practical effects look really nice and clean and the CGI effects cut in and out very smoothly and look really good. However, the characters are undeveloped and flat, none of the characters are more than just character tropes with absolutely no originality or for that matter even personality. There was more character development of the monsters than there was the characters. The story isn't new or unique and doesn't really bring anything new to the action horror movie genre. This is not a great movie by any means, but it is definitely a fun movie. Would I recommend this movie? I suppose I would, it is a fun action horror movie with beautiful sets and a lot of heart pounding action, but it is generic and has a bit of a flat story and characters, that doesn't mean it isn't fun, but it is definitely not great. I do think that this movie can definitely be enjoyed, and if you are in the mood for action over story, then throw it in, and have fun, just don't expect a deep or original story, or characters that you will feel anything for, but who cares, there is one dying in almost every scene anyway, so fuck it I guess, and just have fun and maybe take bets on who you think will make it out alive. Also don't let critics tell you what you enjoy and watch it for yourself and just enjoy whatever you like.

I would love to do a review of Descent sometime, I need to purchase it, the next time I see it I will be sure to pick up a copy so I can do a review of it. I do remember thinking it was a better movie last time I watched it.

I like a good scare from silly horror movies. Controlled fear is always far more enjoyable than the real thing.

The Cave is an ok scare but pales in comparison to its sister release The Descent. Featuring a strong all female cast, the Descent does suspense and jumping out of your seat frights a whole lot better.

I’d love to see your take on the Descent and compare the two.
