The 5th Wave, released in 2016 is a post apocalyptic sci-fi film based on the young adult novel of the same name. This film stars Chloe Grace Moretz (who is becoming one of my favourite young actresses), as well as Ron Livingston (who most people know from is starring role in Office Space). This film did not fare well among critics, and was not that successful in the theaters either. I don't really recall this movie coming out, but found it in a bargain bin, and though for $3.95 the premises sounded decent, and even if it ended up being bad it would still be worth the cost of the dvd, and also it has Chloe Grace Moretz so it can't be all bad. This is a film a bout an alien invasion, they have been attacking the earth in waves, and each wave getting more severe, and this is a film about the survivors as they face the 5th Wave. I actually enjoyed this film, the story was a fun story about fighting for survival. I also love that the main character is a woman who is both strong and tender at the same time. The cast were all pretty decent, though other than Chloe Grace Moretz no one really stood out as being great, but they all played their parts sufficiently. The premise of the film is entertaining enough to keep my attention. Many of the reviews of this film discuss how the film isn't truly original and really adds nothing to the genre. I agree with this, but does that necessarily make it bad? The other huge critique of this film is that it is very predictable. Again true enough, but I also don't feel that is always bad, if the film is entertaining enough, which I found it to be. To me this is a great low thought intensive sci-fi film. What did I really not like though? Well, that would be the subpar digital effects. The tsunami that flooded the park she is in as well as wipped out every coastal city in the world, look terrible. They looked like digital waves crashing in. This came out in 2016, and I have honestly seen better water effects in video games. I hope they didn't pay too much for those effects, I honestly would have sacked those ass-clowns for how bad it looked if I was the film maker. It wasn't the unoriginal and weak plot, it wasn't a case of bad acting (which there really wasn't any actually bad acting), or anything like that that ruined it, it was just those very shitty special effects.

Would I recommend this film? Sure, why not? So if you are looking for film that will challenge you, or that is new and original, that has amazing effects, and all of those other things people love to look for in films, then this film is not for you. I have not read the books, but I read in a review that this film isn't even for the fans of the book, because they will get frustrated and annoyed by the changes. But do you like young adult scifi films, that don't require too much for your mind o enjoy, the this might be your film. Like I said it isn't bad, just predictable, looks bad, and not super original, but I am able to over look that, and just enjoy it for what it is, which is an entertaining film.
