Ghostbusters released in 1984 is comedic/horror/fantasy starring Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts and Rick Moranis. Ghostbusters follows in the tradition of horror-comedies of the likes of Abbot and Costello with their comedic horror films. This is probably the best movie of its type, and has become a big part of pop culture. I first watched this film as a young child, and it has always been one of my favourites, from the great comedy, the catchy 80s music that still sticks in my head, and the great special effects. The special effects, are really impressive and still hold up well. Ghostbusters still looks good even after all of these years, and that is really impressive. The film is also perfectly cast, the actors are legendary comedians and solid actors, who play their roles perfectly and very convincingly, and then added into that is horror movie legend Sygourney Weaver who survived Alien to end up having her apartment haunted by a demigod by the name of Zuul. "There is no Dana only Zuul." This movie is still often quoted, and images like Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man are still very recognizable images of pop culture. This is a film that I feel that it is pointless to go over the plot of the film, because I find it hard to believe that everyone hasn't already seen this classic film. It seems that so often comedic films slip into the grounds of stupidity, but Ghostbusters, doesn't, it has this intelligent edge to it, and the comedic aspects of it never detract from the excellent story that the film has. The writing on this film is expertly done, and the actors play those parts so perfectly. The team that did the special effects are also experts in their fields as well, having worked on such classic movies as the Star Wars movies. Really pretty much everyone who was a part of the original Ghostbusters were experts in their fields. This is another one of those movies where there is really nothing negative that can be said about it. Would I recommend this film? Yes, absolutely, this movie is such a great memory of my childhood, and is still amazing to watch today! Oh and also I love that I have seen most of the filming locations while I lived in NYC, including the firehouse that was used as the home base of the Ghostbusters in the movie, so that was really awesome to me. I just really love this film and I feel like this movie should on everyone's watch list. If you have not seen this film yet, you really need to rush out and see it right away, there is definitely a good reason that this film is such a big part of our pop culture. This is honestly one of the best comedic movies of all time, because it actually works, and never comes across as a dumb movie as most comedies do. So yes, I cannot recommend this great film enough. Also if you get a chance to watch the special features, they are definitely worth it.
