Death Sentence is a /vigilante action/drama movie released in 2007, starring Kevin Bacon and John Goodman. The basic plot of the movie is that Kevin Bacon plays a father whose son is murdered during a gas station robbery right in front of his dad. During the pretrial for his son's killer, he realizes that the killer is going to go free and not get a serious punishment for the murder of his son, so he decides to get revenge on the killer. He then stalks and hunts down the killer and murders him. This then launches a war between Bacon's character and the gang. The violence and revenge on both sides gets intense and kinda goes off the rails as the story continues and the vengeance on both sides escalates. This movie relies on gratuitous violence, blood and gunshots, and honestly doesn't really work, nor is it believable at all. There is a lot of action though, and there are some pretty intense parts, but action alone doesn't make a movie good. I am not a fan of most action movies, I am often turned off by the over the top action, this movie is really a perfect example of that. The director of the movie is the same as that of Saw, which is a movie that I absolutely loath as it is nothing more than torture porn, and honestly this movie is just gratuitous violence and doesn't have a strong enough plot to carry the movie. To me this movie has a weak plot, that just goes off the rails and loses its self and is just unrealistic, and not believable or really enjoyable. I kinda found the movie dull. Would I recommend this movie? Nope, there are much better moves out there, and I feel like this one was kind of a waste of time, action revenge movie, though I suppose if that is your thing, then by all means check it out. I honestly don't know if this is one that I would re-watch. Just a bunch of men beating each other up, and shooting a lot of guns. Even the drama of the movie is just ruined by the ridiculous action and over the top violence. Definitely not worth the time, that I spent on watching it and the boring special features that are also on the dvd, I really can't think of anything that really redeems this movie for me.
