Cold Steel released in 1987 stars a young Sharon Stone, my favourite musician turned actor Adam Ant, among others, and is also Anthony LaPaglia's (Joe from Empire Records) debut movie. This was an action/thriller about a cop who, on Christmas finds out that his father was murdered. He then goes renegade and over zealous to find the person who murdered his father. This leads to him getting suspended. He then meets this beautiful mysterious woman, and has a fling with her. He also while investigating another heist, ends up with his partner in a his speed car chase causing a lot of damage and costs him his job. Then the girl that he is into says she doesn't want to see him anymore, which is at that point that we the viewers find out who she is, and that she is no random encounter, but that she is working for the man who killed her father, and that that also wasn't a random act of violence either and that all of this is to target this cop because of an event that happened in the past that led the bad guy to being disfigured. The best part of this movie is Adam Ant playing Mick one of the bad guy's side kicks. Honestly he is the best actor in the movie, and his character is fun to watch, even though his acting career was pretty much nothing more than these bit roles in low budget movies, he actually delivered a far superior and more natural performance than Sharon Stone who would be the only one to go on to becoming a big-name Hollywood actor from the movie. Honestly it is a fun movie, it feels low budget, and it plays up on so many cliche' 80's renegade cop movie themes, but this one does actually work. This is not a great movie however, and for the most part has been pretty much forgotten by most people over the years, matter of fact you probably won't even find this one in those discount bargain DVD bins, because it went out of print in 2010 and Sony has no future plans to reissue it. My copy of it is an imported copy, as I have actually never seen a copy for sale before. I have this movie because Adam Ant is in it, and I am a huge Adam Ant fan, I even have an Adam and the Ants tattoo. Would I recommend this movie? Not sure honestly, like I don't dislike this movie, it is fun, and it has a pretty good story going on, and it also has some funny parts. But is it good enough that I would suggest it to others? I suppose I would ask this: Do you like cheesy 80's renegade cop movies? If the answer is yes, then yeah you should watch this. Also when Adam Ant is on screen the movie does improve greatly, I love when the bad guys are on the way to steal the guns, and he goes into his monologue about how guns are illegal in England, and how he likes being in America where he can have a gun, because "pulling the trigger makes him bigger", which is kind of mocking the American gun obsession, and about how American's feel like bigger men when they have a gun. I don't know, I guess I actually kinda like this movie, even though it isn't my typical genre of film I'd go for. So If you do watch it, expect a low budget action/thriller about a renegade cop and a vengeful murderer who both are on a quest for vengeance.
