The third installment of the Children of the Corn series was released on video in 1995, and was the first of the series to not have a theatrical release. The story of this one, though borrowing elements of the original two films, is not a direct sequel, as the first two were to each other. So this one follows two brothers Eli and Joshua. We find out early on that Eli is possessed by He Who Walks Behind the Rows, and in the opening scene he kill the two brother's father. They brothers are then adopted by a rich family from Chicago, and are sent to a Catholic school. It doesn't take long for shit to start going weird, Eli rejects modern culture, and wears his "amish" styled clothes, and grows a corn field in an abandoned factory next door to their new home. Joshua on the other hand tries to assimilate into his surrounding, and makes friends. Eli however with the aid of the corn that is from He Who Walks Behind the Rows brainwashes his classmates into forming a cult with himself as their leader. We also find out that the two are not really brothers, and that Eli was one of the adopted kids from Gatlin, where as Joshua and his dad moved their later far after the events that took place there. Joshua along with his best friend Malcom fight to stop Eli, as the story gets closer to it's intense climax. Well, if the special effects looked bad in the last installment of this series, then the effects in here look downright laughable. The effects look like they would come from Troma not from Dimension Films, this movie is a true b-horror movie, with cheesy special effects, a lot of blood and gore, and almost a cartoony quality to the effects. The story is weak, and the characters are all pretty flat, with only superficial development happening. The story isn't scary, or thrilling, there really isn't anything about it to make you really care about any of the characters, and their deaths are kind of meaningless. Honestly there isn't anything about this movie that is done well, there are some nice attempts at times to making an actual movie, but it all falls apart, and then the effects prove that it never desired to rise above a bad low budget b-movie. That all being said, I do like bad b-movies, and though this movie is terrible, I can still half-assed enjoy this movie, and revel in its silly special effects. I don't know if this movie is meant to take itself seriously or not, but I actually found it fun in a bad comedic sort of way. None of the actors stood out, or even attempted to act like their characters mattered to them, the look and design is cheap looking, the special effects are funny rather than scary, and there is a reason this turd went straight to video. Would I recommend this movie? ONLY IF you like to laugh at bad b-horror movies, because I promise you this one is not a good movie, but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyable. It is what it is, and it is honestly sad that this still bares the name of Children of the Corn, because I don't think Stephen King would ever have intended for his work to become this.
