Blade Runner is often cited as one of the best sci-fi movies of all time. It came out in 1982, Directed by Ridley Scott (who also directed Alien), and stars Harrison Ford. Blade Runner takes place in 2019 in a dystopian Los Angles, where androids called Replicants are used to work in off-world colonies, and 4 rogue replicants came back to Earth where they are forbidden. Harrison Ford plays a blade runner, which is kind of like a detective who hunts down rogue replicants and decommissions (kills) them. While hunting down these replicants he discovers a fifth one, who is a more advanced replicant who doesn't even know that she is a replicant. Decker (Ford) ends up falling in love with this replicant. The movie has a slow build, but is totally worth every minute of it. Blade Runner has the perfect balance of action, drama, romance, mystery, and is pretty much everything that a good movie should be. Blade Runner is a neo-noir film, and is really beautifully done. The settings are dark and gritty, futuristic yet also retro. In some ways the movie plays out like classic noir detective films with a sci-fi theme. The story is compelling and engrossing. The pacing is kind of slow, but that works really well for this movie, and the story. The actors all play their parts amazingly and all seemed perfectly cast. The characters are all really well done, and believable. The sets were perfectly done, and fits the story perfect. The movie is absolutely beautiful to look at. This movie was also very inspirational, and changed the sci-fi genre for years to follow. When Blade Runner first came out, it polarized the critics, some absolutely hated it, while others loved it. The movie became a cult-classic, and was especially very highly praised by scientists as one of the top science fiction movies of all time. It is actually hard to find anything negative to say about this movie, it is beautifully done, and has an amazing story, and great cast of characters. I would actually agree about this being one of the best science fiction movies of all time. Would I recommend this movie? Absolutely! This is one of greatest science fiction movies of all-time, and I honestly think that everyone should watch this amazing movie. I think that this movie is an important part of our pop-culture, and it is referenced a lot in modern art. If you haven't seen this amazing movie, don't delay go out and find a copy and watch it immediately. The version I own is the Final Cut, which is the director's favourite version of the movie, it is the version that he wanted us to see when he made the movie.
